Get Cosy – this is what you need to check out on Netflix this October (or what’s left of it)
This time of year, as the days get shorter and the nights get longer, you’ll want to get cosy and watch some good telly – there’s nothing worse than scrolling endlessly through tv show titles and not having a clue what’s good and what’s not. I’ve done this before and ended up watching nothing at all (lame I know!).
So light the fire, grab a glass of wine and get binge-watching!
I literally cannot believe the amount of people that haven’t even watched season one yet. What rock have you been living under??
OK…it’s set in the 80’s and stars Winona Ryder as a woman called Joyce (remember her from Heathers?)
Will, Joyces youngest son, has a tight knit group of friends that all love Dungeons and Dragons and, one night, after a game he goes missing. Whilst the boys are looking for Will in the local woods they meet a young girl called Eleven. The boys take her back home and she recognises a picture of Will and she proceeds to tell them all about a place called The Upside Down (a parallel universe where weird shit happens and gross creatures live)
Now, ladies, before you get completely put off because its sci-fi, just take a moment to watch the trailer below and take yourself back to when you were a kid – in the 80’s. The show is packed with stuff from your childhood – it’s like a strange mix of ET, Ghostbusters, The Goonies and Alien – it’s awesome! Give it a go.
Mindhunter follows FBI agent Holden Ford, and his partner, as they try to get inside the mind of serial killers. It is set in the late 70’s and is based on the real-life story of John Douglas.
Back then they didn’t have a clue how to “get ahead of crazy” so they came up with the idea of interviewing the psychopaths they had locked up in jail.
It’s a great show with 10 episodes, it’s already been commissioned for another season because the reviews are so great. The first 2/3 episodes were directed by David Fincher and Charlize Theron is one of the producers.
The first episode is setting the scene so it’s a bit slow but the characters develop quickly after that and there is a fantastic female role played by Anna Torv.
Ozark sees Jason Bateman as Marty Byrd – a middle class accountant that somehow gets himself and his business partner mixed up with the drug cartel and money laundering. Everything very quickly goes wrong and he has to up-root his family, much to their dismay, to Missouri’s Ozarks lake region to launder $8million dollars in 3 months (or something that crazy!)
It’s a great show with some gripping moments and some dark humour.
I am a huge Baz Luhrmann fan (Romeo and Juliet, The Great Gatsby) and he is one of the creatives behind The Get Down.
It is a musical drama set in South Bronx in 1977 and is the retelling of the founding of hip-hop – executive produced by Grandmaster Flash and narrated by the rapper Nas.
Disco is a big deal and hip hop is a brand new sound. The show follows Zeke, a young wordsmith and his friends as they follow their dreams and passions and try not to let anything get in their way.
I think thats enough for now. These shows should see you through for the next few weeks – by which time there should be a ton more! The beauty of Netflix!
KInd regards, Livvy
