Peaky Blinders Season 4; Who’s ready?
Have you even watched Peaky Blinders Season One, Two or Three yet? If not, you are missing a real treat.
What’s Peaky Blinders about?
It’s a mix of period drama, gangster drama and romance drama – so much drama!
It’s set in 1920’s Birmingham, after WW1 and it follows the Shelby family.
Head of the family is Tommy Shelby – played by Cillian Murphy. He’s a tricky character – broody, intelligent and complicated would be how I would describe him (he is also handsome, if slightly quirky looking).
The Shelby family are a gang – a weird, dysfunctional, funny family gang – that are forever trying to remain on top of the pile. Tommy is ambitious and has visions of moving up in the world but he is pretty much consistently brought back down to reality when one of his brothers does something utterly stupid.
They are Roman/Irish, dodgy as anything, completely focused and driven and completely lovable (in a strange way that you just can’t help) The family bond between them is enviable, but you certainly wouldn’t want to be anywhere close by when they have a fight.
The Shelbys are doing well, terrorising the neighbourhood for their own gains and having some fun on the way when Chief Inspector Major Chester Campbell (Sam Neil) gets sent in to clean up the streets of Birmingham. This sets the cat amongst the pigeons – he learns of The Shelbys and is dead set on shutting them down. He has direct orders from Churchill to squash any uprisings and rid the streets of pesky gangs so he’s on a bit of mission to get the job done.
However – Tommy Shelby is no fool so things turn in to a bit of a pissing contest. Suffice to say, there is an epic twist that is a real heart breaker. I dont want to spoil it for you – I highly recommend you watch it.
Each character is superb – all acting is impeccable, the script is gripping and the music is perfect. BBC did well with this one.
Here’s the season one teaser trailer.
So far, there have been 3 Seasons (a good sign)
Peaky Blinders started back in 2013 with 6 episodes and Season 4 is due out any moment now.
You can happily binge watch Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix – season 3 will come out on Netflix in December (only a couple of months to wait).
Peaky Blinders Season 4 will mostly likely come to BBC 2 in November sometime.
The BBC website has a whole bunch of clips – some of which are season re-caps so if you fancy just watching season 4 you can watch the re-caps ready for November.
Definitely not one to watch with the children though – there’s lots of bloody violence and sex. (It’s a big hit with my husband!)
